Why is there so much surprise concerning unemployment levels when so many good jobs have been outsourced?

In the 1990s and 2000s Democrat (Clintonian) and Republican (Bushian) policies encouraged companies to outsource their production with ensuing job losses in America. This process effectively gutted America’s bread and butter sources of labor. Pundits like Thomas Friedman told us that it’s all "ok" since all America need do is "re-train" and "re-educate". The former GM autoworker just has to go to college, and he’ll be ready to go take on an even better paying job in no time. This canard is still being passed around by the Obamaites.

Meanwhile, Wall Street and Main Street shenanigans and gimmicks helped mask the effects: first the Internet bubble inspired us with visions of a "New Economy", then the real estate bubble enticed us to the prospects of an "endless" source of investment income. So long as you could speculate in these markets, you didn’t have to worry about jobs. There was "money in them thar hills" and everyone from PhD’s to Joe Plumber could simply play the market for some cool cash. Economists hailed the rapid post 9/11 "recovery" (not realizing that, with a gutted manufacturing base, most real jobs were disappearing, the economic disaster looming on the horizon being masked by phony equities and real estate numbers).

So now that the proverbial $hit has hit the fan, everyone is acting "surprised": No one seems to understand why there are no good jobs and why former plant workers can only find jobs at Mickey Dees or other low-paying McJobs. Economists are still awaiting the arrival of the elusive "high paying, intellectually intensive services job" like some long-awaited Messiah. "It’s all about services," they tell us.

Of course, we’re really in a way becoming a services oriented society: We serve only ourselves, our narcissism, our self interest, our loathing, our vanity, our naivete, our desire to make a quick buck like we did playing the markets (like playing the horses). This is the long-awaited "services" economy. America doesn’t produce anything anymore. We borrow all our money like some hooked junkie from a loan shark (i.e. China) who in turn rather than helping us pay back our debt entices us with more cheap wares to further sink us into indebtedness (ironically, wares made by labor that used to be our own).

And then we’re surprised why Americans have some of the highest drug abuse rates in the world. Of course we do, we’re trying to make sense of just how the logic of all of this works out. We export our good high-paying manufacturing jobs in exchange for cheap Chinese knock-offs made with heaping spoonfuls of mercury topped off with lead, all for a dollar at your local dollar store. Surely we got a raw deal somewhere, we just can’t figure out where. I mean, it seemed like a "foolproof" plan in the 90s. We know we did right by "globalization," didn’t we? And just what is globalization anyway? No matter, so long as we can’t define it it must be one of those fancy economic terms that only the smart guy PhD’s can explain, We’ll let them rule our world- thank you Mr. Greenspan and your ilk.

Why do we act so surprised that the jobs aren’t coming back?

I need someone to proofread my memo! PLEASE!!!?

Please let me know what you think of it and what can be changed. I really appreciate your help and best answer gets best answer!!1

Subject: Communication and Social Media
Did you know that there is a market of over 1 billion people that hasn’t been touched by our company? That market includes social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. These networks have been cashing in on small business advertising. Our clients would benefit greatly if they could learn how to use these networks as a personal billboard for their business. If we can train our employees and clients about this multi-billion dollar industry, our company could see a 35 percent increase in revenue.
Social networking is the biggest thing on the internet. According to Facebook.com, people spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook alone. In order to get access to these networks, we need to train our employees and clients on these social networks. As we usually train small- and medium-size business, if we implemented this course we could see a huge increase in customers. We already have an expert in this field, Mrs. Susan Serrano. She has the knowledge and teaching abilities needed to teach our employees and clients about this lucrative business.
In order to help our customers and elevate our revenue, we need to make an investment. We would need to expect to pay up to ,000 for Susan to design a full course on social networks. Although this may seem like a lot of money, it’s a small figure when compared to the expected revenue increases that we would see in the immediate future.
Susan would need to develop an eight-hour course on “Communication and Social Media.” The course would include coverage of such things as social networks, the most effective ways of advertising through social networks, and how to help increase your company’s good will through social networks. This will be a very in-depth course, and Susan will need a lot of time to prepare it.
This opportunity won’t last long, and we must take the initiative today before someone else steals this lucrative industry out of our hands. Please call me at (541) 975-3*** and we can start the process of implementing this new course. I look forward to your call.

What in your opinion has or will define this generation?

This generation has seen many marvels in its time, such as the election of the first African-American president of the United States, and the numerous natural and fiscal disasters. But, I believe the lasting footprints of this generation, with the exception of Barrack Obama’s presidency, will be the unbelievable innovation in the fields of technology, the explosion of the internet and social networking, and perhaps the beginning of the globalization of the world.

In no other generation has technology been more essential to everyday life than in this one. This generation, I believe, has made some of the greatest leaps forward in the advancements of the automobile, the computer, aircrafts and trains, and many others. These are what make modern life what it is: Businesses can operate more capably, students can learn more proficiently, and people from around the world can communicate with virtually anyone at anytime. It is due to innovations made in this generation, that all of these now-crucial capabilities can be carried out.

Similarity, the personal computer and the internet have largely dominated this generation. As well, social networking sites have been second to none in its rapid rise in popularity over this generation. Currently, there are over 500 million active users of Facebook throughout the world, and because of its popularity, the internet itself has been, in a sense, redefined and its possibilities reconsidered all in one generation’s length.

With all the innovation that has been accomplished in this generation, globalization has too been gaining momentum, and if it persists, it may also be one of the greatest defining factors of this generation. In fact, technology has been a sizeable contributor to this, as we saw with Facebook. But global competition and expanding markets have dramatically increased in recent years. For better or for worse, this generation has experienced its initiative more than any other before.

To conclude, I will say that choosing just three things that have defined this generation is itself very difficult. But overall, I think technological innovation, the internet and social networking, and globalization will or already have defined this generation most greatly.

***coworker is in major denial ****?

Ok so when we were all hired we were fed the same shpeel that we are going to be managers, well the thing is they told every member of our team the same thing in private, so we went along with it like idiots and worked like slaves…well a year later when things were just bad…we all figured out that this is what they had told everyone on our team behind closed doors…so now we have this new girl…who we think was told the same thing by the managers….she is always in the managers office…and DELEGATES work to us….this girl has no experience or training at any of our desks..we all work with the market and our environment is very stressfull and deadline oriented but this chick walks around like shes the boss…all she does is listen to her ipod, study, go on the internet, and text all day if she dosent have work to do…im surprised that she had her ipod pulled out in front of my main boss and told her “this is just my music” so anyway
Don’t u guys think that pump and dump is the sickest management style?
Also I don’t think this girl has any clue that there is no assistant manager position open?
The company has lost billions, the position was eliminated when my current boss moved up to being a manager, and they are laying off and this chick is thinking of moving up?

Need some advice about joining the NAVY, can you help?

What are some good ratings to be in?

I work construction now but the job market has really went bad since January.

I’m 34, already been to the recruiters office. Took the ASVAB and scored a 96 on that. I haven’t taken any physical tests but I looked on the Internet at the Navy PT requirements and I’ll be able to max out those tests; I’m in excellent physical shape.

The only one I have seen so far that was interesting was the Sea bee’s… because I already know construction.

I was thinking about doing something technical though because maybe I could use the training on the outside. I also have a college degree, I choose to do labor work because I can. Any suggestions on ratings?

why don't I get calls from retail stores? (resume provided)?

I have applied to many and I feel I should get call back. here is my resume..please tell me what you think the reason is based on this. I have already had the career center and my local workforce agency take a look at it. I dont think there are any errors.

OBJECTIVE To work in a positive environment, and utilize my communication skills in the work field and increasing my skills with each opportunity.
